2025 - A Big Year!

2025 was a big year for me, both professionally and personally. It started off with the arrival of my beautiful, first ever, brand new kiln. Not just any kiln, a Nabertherm kiln all the way from Germany. This was a monumental moment for me. It felt like I was finally fully stepping into my role as a full time potter.

Having this kiln also meant I could realistically take part in bigger events such as The Finders Keepers market in Sydney as well as the Sydney Ceramic Market. Both events would be the biggest markets I’d ever attended with audiences reaching the thousands.

With my new kiln I hit the ground running, here’s a list of a few changes and achievements from this past year:

  • I started using a darker stoneware clay. I was using porcelain before. I did this because changing from a reduction gas kiln to an oxidised electric kiln completely changed my colour palette and it was a bit bright looking for me.

  • I started consolidating all of my forms by being less experimental and more repetitive. This allowed me to produce more stock and for customers to know what to expect in my sales etc.

  • I made a million test tiles, each bucket of glaze and slip has a test tile attached to it so that I know exactly how it will look on my clay body. No more guessing!

  • I realised that sometimes it’s better to play it safe and leave the experimentation to test tiles and smaller items. No more teapots as test tiles…!!!!

  • I took on commissions as I now have a reliable kiln which produces consistent results.

  • I spent money on my display for markets. I got a tiered timber display system made, got a banner made up with my logo on it and spent way too much money on the most beautiful frilly linen tablecloth. It had to be done.

  • I had a solo show at In Tandem Gallery in the US, a dream come true!

In the background I completed my 350 hour Yoga Teacher Training at the Prana Project. This involved 3 full days of study and practice once a month. It was challenging to take the time off each month, but so worth it. It was something I’ve wanted to do for a long time and ultimately my yoga pracitce is what helps me show up in the studio and make the best possible work.

I end this year incredibly happy and proud of myself and I’m looking forward to 2026 where I will continue to develop new forms (currently working on lights) and a few new colour combos.
