Northcote Residency October 2022
In early 2022 I was fortunate enough to be selected for the Northcote residency in Melbourne. During my 6 weeks here, I would like to create an elaborate drink set. Within the set I will be including elements of turned timber, and most significantly I will make a Chocolatiere with a turned Molinet (details to come).
For my Honours thesis at Central Saint Martins I focused on cacao ceremonies and the tableware which accommodated it. Exploring the origin of the drink, I journeyed beyond to learn about the method of brewing hot chocolate in the 1700’s and the pots which were designed to elevate the ritual.
As well as working in the studio 6 days a week, I will be teaching evening classes and exploring the galleries, cafes and markets of Melbourne. This will be the first extended period of time I have spent away from home since the pandemic.
